Holiday Party Games for Kids
Blind man's Buff
Before beginning make sure that there are no fragile items
in the room where you will play this game. Ask an adult to help with decisions
about moving furniture and breakable items.
The object of Blindman's Buff is for the person who is "it" to catch
another guest and then guess who is caught. A fair way to select the "blind man"
is to draw pieces of paper from a bowl or hat-- all the pieces should be blank
except one.
To begin, tie a blindfold around the "blind man's" head so that he or she
can't see. Next, try to quiet the other players so that their voices won't be
recognized. Take the "blind man" by the shoulders and gently spin a time or two.
When you let go, quickly get out of the way, and the game begins. Players must
stay on the floor in one specific room-- they are disqualified if the climb onto
furniture or leave the room.
Once the "blind man" has caught another guest, he or she must guess who
is caught. If the "blind man" guesses correctly, the person who has been caught
is "it" next. If the "blind man" does no guess correctly, he or she must try
again. If a second guest is caught but not identified, the "blind man" must give
up his or her turn, and a new "it" is selected by drawing from the hat or bowl
again.
Santa's Scavenger Hunt
You must have permission in order to play this indoor game. Be sure to
explain to the adult in charge exactly what the players will be doing.
Divide your guests into two teams. (If you have many guests--more than about 12
or 15--you may want to dived into three teams.) A fair way to form two teams is
to ask everyone to form a line and count off--those with even numbers are one
team, and those with odd numbers form the other team. It is not necessary for
each team to have the same number of players. Give each player a bag and start
the game. The first team to collect everything on the hunting list wins.
Hunting list:
Red ribbon
Bell
Christmas cookie
Paper napkin
Gift tag
Piece of tinsel |
Candy cane
Christmas card
Plastic spoon
Piece of tape
Picture of Santa
Paper cup |
Pin the Nose on the Reindeer
Materials:
1 large sheet of white posterboard
Pencil
Watercolors or markers
Red construction paper
|
Tape
Thumbtacks or tape
Blindfold (a large cloth or handkerchief) |
1. With pencil, draw a noseless reindeer on the side
of the posterboard which is not shiny. Use watercolors
or markers to color him in.
2. For each player, cut a circle about 1" wide from red
construction paper--these are the noses. Write a players
name on one side and stick a closed circle of tape on the other.
Leave these upside down until read to play.
3. Tack or tape the posterboard in a place low enough on a wall
or bulletin board so that you and your friends will be able to reach it.
4. Have your friends form a line. Blindfold the first person in line
and
then gently turn the player around and around. Point the blindfolded player
toward the reindeer. The player must walk to the poster and stick his or her
nose
on the reindeer. Repeat with each player--closest nose will have the name of the
winner!
