Helpful Hints for Costumes

1. Add character to your costumes with face paints.

2. Any of these costumes can be spiced up using items from craft and fabric stores. Start with glitter, beads, and felt. Let your imagination and time dictate what and how to do it.

3. to make your head square for the Frankenstein costume, choose one of the following methods:

  1. Paint a small cardboard box black, and fit smugly over the top of your head.

  2. If your hair is short, tease and spray your hair to stand up in a square shape.

  3. Cut off the top half of a gallon plastic milk container. Paint it black, and fit it over the top of your head.

4. Special effects can be achieved for your ghost costume by adding a plastic ball & chain (purchase at costume stores or use old toys).

5. To attach spider legs use one of the following methods:

  1. Tuck the waist band of nylons into the top of your pants.

  2. Cut off the panty part of the nylons and glue the legs spread evenly to the underside of a black belt. Hook the belt onto your waist.

6. If you would like to spice up your witch costume add plastic spiders and other creatures to your cape and shoulder area. You may also add stars made out of glitter, felt and puff paints. Purchase a plastic crooked nose at a costume store. Kids love the authentic look.
