OREO O's Bars

¼ cup (½ stick) butter or margarine
1 package (10½ ounces) miniature marshmallows (6 cups)
8 cups POST OREO O's Cereal

 

These chewy, gooey treats are so easy to make you'll want to fix a batch to tote to a party and prepare another batch to treat the family.

Microwave butter in 4-quart microwavable bowl on HIGH 45 seconds or until melted. Add marshmallows; mix to coat. Microwave 1½ minutes or until marshmallows are melted and smooth, stirring after 45 seconds. Add cereal; mix to coat well.

Press firmly into greased foil-lined 13x9-inch pan. Cool; cut into rectangles.

Makes 18.

OREO O's Chocolate Bars: Prepare as directed, melting 2 squares BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate with butter.

Candy Corn Popcorn Balls

¼ cup (½ stick) butter or margarine
1 package (10½ ounces) miniature marshmallows (6 cups)
1 package (4-serving size) JELL-O Gelatin Dessert, any flavor
12 cups (3quarts) popped popcorn
1 cup candy corn

 

Use this yummy treat for prizes in a pumpkin race. Divide kids into two groups. Give each group a pumpkin and have them race to the finish line while rolling the pumpkin with their hands.

Microwave butter and marshmallows in large microwavable bowl on HIGH 1½ to 2 minutes or until marshmallows are puffed. Stir in gelatin until well mixed.

Pour marshmallow mixture over popcorn and candy corn in large bowl. Mix lightly until well coated. Shape into 15 balls or other shapes with greased or wet hands. Wrap each ball in plastic wrap and tie with raffia or ribbon if desired.

Trick or Treat Snack Mix

4 cups POST Halloween HONEYCOMB Sweetened Corn and Oat Cereal
2 cups caramel popcorn
2 cups small pretzels
1 cup candy corn

 

Keep the kids entertained on a rainy October afternoon by having them decorate small bags to package this terrific treat. You provide the paper bags, markers and Halloween stickers and let the youngsters do the rest.

Mix all ingredients in large bowl. Serve as snack.

Makes about 9 cups.

JELL-O Ween Poke Brownies

1 package (19.8 ounces) brownie mix
1½ cups cold milk
1 package (4-serving size) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding & Pie Filling
Few drops each red and yellow food coloring

 

Two treats in one! Pudding and brownies share center stage in this very special Halloween dessert.

Prepare and bake brownie mix as directed on package for 8- or 9-inch square baking pan. Remove from oven. Immediately use round handle of wooden spoon to poke holes at 1-inch intervals down through brownies to pan.

Pour cold milk into large bowl. Add pudding mix. Beat with wire whisk 2 minutes. Stir in a few drops food colorings to tint mixture orange. Quickly pour about ½ of the thin pudding evenly over warm brownies and into holes. Tap pan lightly to fill holes. Let remaining pudding mixture stand to thicken slightly. Spread remaining pudding over top of brownies to "frost."

Refrigerate 1 hour or until ready to serve. Cut into 2-inch squares. Cut each square diagonally into triangles.

Coconut Macaroons

2 2/3 cups (7 ounces) Coconut
2/3 cup sugar
6 tablespoons flour
¼ teaspoon almond extract
Whole natural almonds (optional)

 

Dip these coconut puffs into chocolate for an exceptional treat.

Mix coconut, sugar, flour and salt in large bowl. Stir in egg whites and almond extract.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased and floured cookie sheets. Press 1 almond into center of each cookie.

Bake at 325°F for 20 minutes or until edges of cookies are golden brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheets. Cool on wire racks.

Makes about 3 dozen

Chocolate-Dipped Macaroons: Prepare macaroons as directed; cool. Melt 1 package (8 squares) BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate as directed on package. Dip cookies halfway into chocolate; let excess temperature or refrigerate on wax paper-lined tray 30 minutes or until chocolate is firm.

Cookies & Creme Scream

1 package (12.6 ounces) JELL-O No Bake Cookies & Creme Dessert
1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 1/3 cups cold milk
Few drops each red and yellow food coloring

 

Suit your fancy--tint this rich dessert pastel, bright or any shade of orange-in-between just by varying the amount of food coloring you add.

Stir Curst Mix and butter thoroughly with fork in medium bowl until crumbs are well moistened. Press mixture onto bottoms of 12 to 15 paper-lined muffin cups.

Pour cold milk into deep, narrow-bottom bowl. Add Filling Mix. Beat with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds. Stir in a few drops food colorings to tint mixture orange; beat on high speed 3 minutes. Do not underbeat.

Reserve ½ cup Crushed Cookies. Gently stir remaining Crushed Cookies into filling until well blended. Divide prepared filling mix among cups. Top with reserved ½ cup Crushed Cookies.

Freeze 2 hours or until firm. Remove from freezer. Garnish with assorted decorative candies. Store leftover dessert, covered, in freezer up to 2 weeks.

Double Banana Streusel Cake

1 cup POST SELECTS BANANA NUT CRUNCH Cereal
½ cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 package (2-layer size) banana cake mix
4 eggs
1 cup sour cream
½ cup oil
Powdered Sugar Glaze

 

 

Layers of moist banana cake and crunchy banana streusel topping make this cake doubly delicious. Serve it with hot cider as a treat for a Halloween gathering at your house.

Mix cereal, sugar and cinnamon in small bowl. Beat cake mix, eggs, sour cream and oil in large bowl with electric mixer on low speed just to moisten, scraping side of bowl often. Beat on medium speed 4 minutes.

Pour 1/3 of the batter into greased and floured 12-cup fluted tube pan or 10-inch  tube pan. Sprinkle with 1/3 of the cereal mixture. Repeat layers twice, ending with cereal mixture.

Bake at 350°F for 50-55 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes in pan on wire rack; remove from pan. Cool completely on wire rack. Drizzle with Powdered Sugar Glaze. Garnish with additional cereal and walnut halves.

Makes 16 servings.

powdered sugar glaze: Mix 1 cup sifted powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon milk in small bowl. Mix in additional milk, 1 teaspoon at a time, until glaze is smooth and of drizzling consistency.

Lemon Blueberry Morning Cake: Prepare cake as directed, substituting 1 cup POST SELECTS BLUEBERRY MORNING Cereal and 1 package (2-layer size) lemon cake mix for POST SELECTS BANANA NUT CRUNCH Cereal and banana cake mix.

Chocolate Chunk Streusel Coffeecake

2/3 cup flour
½  cup firmly packed brown sugar
¼ cup (½ stick) butter or margarine
1/3 cup chopped slivered almonds
1 package (2-layer size) yellow cake mix
Cooled freshly brewed double-strength Coffee, any variety
6 squares BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate, chopped

 

Get Halloween off to a festive start by serving these moist squares--topped with a nutty, chocolatey crumb topping--with mugs of coffee or glasses of milk.

Mix flour and sugar in medium bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in almonds.

Prepare cake mix as directed on package, substituting brewed coffee for water. Pour batter into greased 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Sprinkle with chocolate and streusel mixture.

Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool. Cut into squares.
